Uruguay Road to Russia FIFA World Cup 2018


Uruguay is only the country with the title of first FIFA World Cup winner in 1930 and also the first hosting country of FIFA World Cup. With 12 appearances in FIFA World Cup Uruguay has managed to win it twice. In 1950 Uruguay won FIFA World Cup for the second time against the hosting country Brazil. The football association in Uruguay was formed in 1900.The goalscorer of final in 1930 for Uruguay was Pablo Dorado in the 12th minute, Pedro Cea on the 57th minute, Santos Iriarte on the 68th minute and Hector Castro on the 89th minute of the game. However, Argentina managed to score twice on 20th and 37th minute of the final and defeated against Uruguay. Uruguay has qualified for FIFA World Cup 2018 to Russia.

World Cup Qualifier South America

Uruguay played a total of 18 games for their qualifying round in South America with a total of 31 points in the Qualifying table securing the Second position in the table. The country conceded 9 wins 4 draws and 5 losses during their qualifying rounds. Uruguay defeated against Ecuador in the third round with the final score of 2-1in which Edinson Cavani managed to score on the 50th minute of the game assisted by Nicolas Lodeiro. On the seventh round of the qualifying game, Uruguay again defeated against Argentina with the final score of 1-0 in which L. Messi scored at the 43rd minute of the game. Chile managed to win against Uruguay on the 12th round of the game with the final score of 3-1 and Uruguay was also defeated against Brazil in the 13th round of the qualifying game. The biggest win in qualifying stage for Uruguay was against Paraguay in which Uruguay conceded 4 goals where Edinson Cavani scored twice and Luis Suarez also scored from a penalty and C. Rodriguez also marked himself in a score sheet.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Group A

 The final draw of FIFA World Cup 2018 has placed Uruguay in Group A where Uruguay has to play against Russia Saudi Arabia and Egypt and qualify for the Knockout stage into the round of Sixteen’s.
