Mexican football Organization started in the 20th century by immigrants from England and Spanish War exiles and their first competition was held in 1923. After the formation of Mexican Football Federation in 1927, Mexican Football team participated in the 1930 FIFA World Cup and eliminated from the group stage. Mexico did not compete in FIFA World Cup until 1950, but they advanced to the FIFA World Cup in 1950 in Brazil and got eliminated from the group stage. They got eliminated from group stage until 1966 FIFA World Cup. Mexico hosted the next edition of FIFA World Cup in 1970 and was eliminated by Italy in the quarterfinals. Mexico again hosted the competition in 1986 and was eliminated in quarterfinals by West Germany. In 1990 FIFA World Cup Mexican team was disqualified because of use of underage players in the qualifying round in Olympic Games in 1988. In the years following their banned from competition, they started to achieve international success and made it to the 1994 FIFA World Cup but got eliminated from the second round. Since then Mexico has qualified in every edition of the FIFA World Cup consecutively, making it one of six nations to do so. Mexico has qualified to 16 FIFA World cups.
World Cup Qualifier CONCACAF
All the 35 members of the association from North America, Central America, and Caribbean Zone participate in the competition. The Competition goes for the five rounds and first three teams will directly qualify for the FIFA World Cup and the fourth country goes for the inter-continental playoff. After the completion of round two,10 winners joins two teams that have ranked 7 and 8 according to FIFA Coca-Cola World ranking and these 12 teams will compete in round three where two plots are chosen and one of them contains the six higher ranked teams and other contains six lower ranked teams. The six winners from round three advance to the fourth round where they compete with the six top-ranked team in the region these twelve teams are separated into three groups the group winners and runners-up advanced to round five. The six teams in the round five are placed into the single group and the top 3 teams from round five qualify for FIFA World Cup and the 4th team goes for the inter-continental playoff. Mexico qualified for 2018 FIFA World Cup through these qualification rounds.
