The first country in the European nation to play association football was Belgium after the Irish student Cyril B.Morrogh entered into the Josephites College with a leather ball on 26 October 1863. The year 1900 to 1904 was considered as the birth of Belgium National Team. Belgium’s most successful period started when the team finished second in the Euro 1980. Between 1978 to 2002, Belgium team was considered to have golden age because of their well-organized team that was difficult to play against. During this time period, Belgium qualified for every FIFA World Cup. In 1982 FIFA World Cup, the team got a surprising 0-1 victory over Argentina and in 1986 FIFA World Cup Belgium reached the semifinals of the tournament. In 1990 FIFA World Cup, Belgium got eliminated from the round of 16 and similar happened in the next FIFA World Cup in 1994. In 1998 FIFA World Cup, Belgium got eliminated from the group stage and they reached round of 16 in 2002 FIFA World Cup. They did not qualify for the FIFA World Cup in the year 2006 and 2010. But in 2014 FIFA World Cup Belgium got eliminated from quarterfinals. They lost 1-0 against Argentina in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2014. Belgium was selected 12 times in FIFA World Cup since 1930 and their best achievement was fourth place in 1986 FIFA World Cup.
World Cup Qualifier Europe
The World Cup qualifier in Europe selects 14 countries for the FIFA World Cup and for 2018 FIFA World Cup; Russia qualifies for being a host country. 52 countries who are the members of FIFA from Europe go for the preliminary competition where those 5 countries were divided into 9 groups in which 7 groups contain 6 teams and rest of the two groups contain only 5 teams. England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain are placed in a group containing 6 teams. Winners from each group qualify automatically and the eight best runners-up go for the playoffs from which 4 teams are selected. Thus, in this way, the Europe qualifier selects 14 nations for the FIFA World Cup.
Belgium finished first in Group H with 9 wins in a total of 10 games and qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Belgium drew only one match against Greece and that was 1-1 otherwise they won all the games. Belgium scored 8 goals against Estonia and 9 goals against Gibraltar.
